Dotter was born in Bamberg, Germany, in 1993. His work spans fine-art, documentary, and fashion photography. His practice is grounded in a quiet and poetic visual language shaped by his long engagement with Japan—marked by disciplined composition, tonal restraint, and an interest in the emotional architectures that emerge in moments of pause and retreat. Between 2019 and 2020, Dotter worked as a photography teacher for the United Nations in Afghanistan. His close relationship with his students led him to spearhead an effort involving 100 photographers to successfully evacuate them in 2021. Dotter’s first monograph, RECORD, documenting natural habitats and indigenous communities in the Amazon, Borneo, and Madagascar, was published in 2025.

He has worked on editorial campaigns, catalogues, and commissions for Chanel, Hermés, Issey Miyake, and Loewe, amongst many others. His work has been exhibited in London, Paris, and Tokyo, and published in the British Journal of Photography, The New York Times and Vogue, among many others.

Dotter lives and works in Tokyo.ドッターは1993年、ドイツのバンベルクに生まれた。作品はファインアート、ドキュメンタリー、ファッション写真と幅広く、その実践は、日本との長い関わりの中で形成された静かで詩的な視覚言語に根ざしている。厳密な構図、抑制されたトーン、そして静けさや退避の瞬間に立ち現れる「感情の建築」への関心が特徴的である。

2019年から2020年にかけて、ドッターは国連の写真講師としてアフガニスタンで教鞭をとった。学生たちとの深い関係性から、2021年には世界中の100人の写真家を巻き込み、学生たちの国外避難を成功に導く活動を主導した。

ドッターの初の写真集『RECORD』は、アマゾン、ボルネオ、マダガスカルにおける自然環境と先住民族の暮らしを記録したもので、2025年に刊行された。

これまでにシャネル、エルメス、イッセイミヤケ、ロエベなど多数のブランドのキャンペーン、カタログ、広告制作に携わっている。作品はロンドン、パリ、東京で展示され、『British Journal of Photography』、『The New York Times』、『Vogue』など数多くの媒体に掲載されている。 現在、東京を拠点に活動している。
